Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Ever heard of Guy Bourdin? He remains one of the most influential fashion photographers of all time. His work obviously had an effect on GaGa as well. Her Paparazzi video is littered with Bourdinesque shots. I think she used his influence in a healthy, minimal way… Unlike someone else I can think of.
First of all, the opening of The Monster Ball is amazing. I still get chills every time I see this image. The entrance is the most inspiring since Madonna’s Re-Invention Tour. So dramatic. What’s even more impressive is GaGa’s ability to do incite such excitement with a tight budget and simple set. This is the reason she is now a superstar.
When I see her shadow standing tall and still for the first few verses of Dance in the Dark, I see a distinct reflection of Mr Klaus Nomi and his iconic logo. This logo was used throughout his career. It’s been burned into my mind for years, and now I can’t help but wonder if it was also burned into GaGa’s.
This started as a joke. When I saw this picture, my first reaction to it was that her outfit reminded me of the girl from Beetlejuice. Recently, while watching it, I noticed that there is actually quite a similarity. Is that one of those Chinese food container purses, or just a bag? I can’t tell.
Beyond that, I think this is the worst outfit I have ever seen on a person. Even the tranny bums on skidrow would turn down an outfit like this! Even the queen of Doilies would burn this. And those shoes are soooooo stupid. I can’t wait til she flies face first into a rose bush because of those stupidass shoes.
Besides all of that, I do admire her confidence for wearing such a ridiculous ensemble so proudly. It reminds me of when I went to my brother Jeff’s graduation. I wore a Ross Perot tshirt and giant sunglasses I had covered in gold glitter. And I thought THAT was over the top for the occasion.
Go on Gaga!
Kid-She does steal, and I love her. The proof is there in front of your eyes. Appropriation is an important element of pop art.
To quote Picasso, “Good artists copy, great artists steal”. Lady Gaga is the biggest thief the music biz has had in years.
I have seen Gaga in lots of Nomi inspired outfits. I don’t really knock those. I think when it comes to Nomi, she takes his inspiration and runs with it into a direction farther than he ever did. Make no mistake about it, she IS taking his idea, and stealing his style, but at least she is taking it to a much more elaborate and diverse place.
There is something about this leather obsession that reminisces of the pages in Madonna’s 1992 metal covered art book Sex.
There is a difference though. Madonna went about it full force. Lady Gaga has yet to show the world her “temple of learning”. I do like that Gaga has put more of a biker-dike twist on the leather look. Props for that.
Madonna Jonathan Ross interview 1992. She talked about her Erotica album, and her controversial book, Sex.
Gaga in 2010 blabbering about herself. The only thing she is missing is a gold tooth and cigar. I’m sure she will get those later.
